The Unexpected Color Dominating this Summer

This summer is all about embracing bold, unexpected hues, and chartreuse, often dubbed “brat green”, is leading the charge. From the perch of my neutral-leaning walk-in closet, I remained initially skeptical (butter yellow, anyone?). But sure enough, chartreuse is the off-beat shade that’s hooked me. It’s an electrifying blend of yellow and green that has transitioned from niche to mainstream, gracing the runways of top designers and after much deliberation, it made its way into my wardrobe.

Chartreuse Takes Center Stage on the runway

For the past year, chartreuse has been showcased in Spring/Summer 2025 collections, popping up in both subtle accents and statement pieces. Gucci’s Spring show featured the iconic Jackie Shoulder Bag in this vibrant shade, proving its versatility in accessories. Miu Miu embraced the color with a chartreuse bowler bag paired with pink, embodying a playful yet sophisticated aesthetic. Erdem demonstrated how to incorporate chartreuse into office wear by styling a light green clutch with a tailored pink jacket and trousers.

How I Styled It

It feels like every brand has paired this bold pop of color with soft pinks on the runway… a beautiful combination, but after seeing it over and over, it started to feel a little expected and not entirely wearable for my everyday life. I wanted something more versatile, something that didn’t lean quite so heavily into the preppy pink-and-green palette (it was giving a bit too much Lilly Pulitzer for my taste). I found a standout piece in a pair of satin pleated pants from Mango and rather than defaulting to that sugary contrast, I styled them with a basil green satin cami and vintage brown strappy Giuseppe Zanotti sandals. It made for a clean, modern mix that feels fresh, unfussy, and quietly elevated. I love the pleated pant to add texture to a head to toe satin look and I topped it off with a J.Crew denim jacket for dimension and this easy, breezy GAP open-weave straw tote from my Summer Edit. If you’re looking for a more relaxed fit that flows a bit more, you can also opt for a classic white button up instead of the denim piece and a metallic flat as a neutral base for a touch of sophistication.
